My Story

Ben Basem Dhair was born in Gaza’s Rafah district in 1993 as the eldest child of a family of 6. My father is a farmer in Palestine. I lost my mother to cancer when I was 16.
My story begins after my mother passed away. this is the story of overcoming the difficulties and obstacles in fulfilling my mother’s wish to become a doctor. After finishing my high school education in Gaza in 2011, my score was insufficient for me to receive medical education in Gaza. I couldn’t leave Gaza at the time and leave my father alone, I was the oldest child in the House. I had to be with my father, so I chose to study physics in Gaza. When I was studying physics engineering, I realized I wasn’t happy. I had to make a decision and make my mother’s dream come true, so I decided to research other countries to study medicine while I was in school. There were Turkey, Egypt and Russia. Russia was the first country I eliminated because I had learned from my student friends that medical education was very bad. Although Egypt is our border neighbor, I eliminated Egypt because of the high costs of education and the country was in turmoil at the time. The students who came to Palestine from Turkey in this process told me about Turkey. Turkey’s success in medical education, the fact that the people of Turkey always behind us with their helpful and dignified position in the Palestinian cause has been instrumental in my coming to Turkey. On May 2, 2012, I crossed into Egypt through the Rafah border crossing. In Kahire, my uncle and I visited relatives in Egypt. A few days later, on May 5, 2012, we landed at Atatürk Airport and met my cousin, Dr.After being a guest of Hamad Dhair one night, he sent me to Ankara to study languages and prepare for the university exam. During my stay in Ankara, it was my greatest gain to meet sincere loving friends who eased the pain of longing for the homeland and who were with me with all kinds of material and moral support. May God bless them. Now, by the grace of God, I am getting my medical education, which my mother wanted very much. In this way, I would like to express my gratitude to all those who have helped me achieve a mother’s dream.
